I was too happy

caz84

I allowed my guard to slip
Let happiness prevail
Then took 10 steps backwards
And watched it all crash down

I took you at your word
When you said you were on your way
I waited up for hours
Then locked the door and walked away

2 weeks passed
You didn't come home
Realization set it
I was on my own

Then we made up
And homebound you came
But my heart is now cautious
I don't feel the same

Knowing each day
It could be our last
You say it's not true
But look at the past

Easy come, easy go
One day you will leave
And I'll just watch you
No energy to grieve

So let's carry on
Pretending all's fine
But know that I'm broken
It's gonna take time
