Cats Know it All

J.Edse

I see my cat in front of me

staring out from its place

of comfort.

she yawns and retreats

back into the corner on

her chair

brown fur mixing

into the upholstery

then vanishing.

I can see just the eyes now

squinting at me, then closing slowly

as if to say

I know the secret

The secret to what I think…

Living???

and the pupils flicker and laugh,

like dancing candles

in the dark,

they scare me

because it reminds me of all the people

in the outside world, hustling, fighting,

stepping over one another to get

someplace faster that doesn’t

matter.

it’s a fools effort

and I can’t do it for much longer.

I beg of her, tell me the secret! tell me the secret!

so I can live happy!

but she just grins

that cheshire grin

before melting back into the environment

and taking it with her.

undisturbed, unfazed,

profound.

Thank you very much! Yes, sometimes I envy them quite a lot. 🙂
