Interrupted Reverie

Katdream

daydreams on lazy days
fir trees coned against the sky
framing the blinding sunlight
lake breezes calm the senses

open meadows beyond
display manicured barns
and rows of hay bails
lay across the placid landscape

sudden storm approaches
darkened skies congregate
lightning show commences
and thunder rumbles

in the distance
the neighing of frightened horses
as the wind blows round like a whirlpool
and trees bow to touch the earth

placid dreaming turns to panic
as a broken window with shards of broken glass
seeds the ground below
as if strewn by human hands

I never thought my reveries
would turn to dread
until at last I find shelter
and witness the power of nature
