Inexplicable Moments

M.M.

You don’t understand,

And I just can’t explain

This feeling in my chest;

A burdensome weight on my lungs stopping me from breathing

A perpetual emptiness burrowing its way into my heart

A trivial crack running down my sternum

A shred of hope left for someone to start compressions

This craving for something greater;

A desperate want to outshine others

A meaningless attempt to make everything better

A never-ending need to please mother and father

A disappointment like no other when expectations meet reality

This restrained urge to break free;

A devastating search for freedom that cannot be afforded

A silent plea for you to at least try being devoted

A heartbreaking hunt for an emergency exit

A muffled cry that forever haunts this ship’s steering

This useless display of affection;

A knowing smile left on your lips with all my pleading

A subtle glint in your eyes staring at me, kneeling

A hidden desire to break free and leave us in ruins

A tragic sigh every time you start a conversation

Like I said,

You don’t understand

And I just can’t explain anymore
