Descent

Katdream

I loved you in my own eccentric way…
Somehow knowing when it started it would end badly
Too much take from you and no give
You pushed me too hard
You lied too many times
And, I couldn’t love you any more
I just couldn’t....

You were sick, I was scared.
And, a promise was made to keep you safe.
My life stopped while yours inverted
As you sunk deeper in the damn dementia depression
That black hole that sucks the memories dry
That ripped away your brilliant mind
And replaced it with nothing…
Nothing but innocent emptiness

Watching helplessly while you descended those stairs
Not knowing who you were
Not knowing why you were there
Not able to speak my name
Not able to speak at all
And, me, still not able to love you back
But a promise was made to keep you safe

The vigil was on and I stayed to the end
When no breath was left
And they took you away
And my heart was confused
Still not able to love you like before
But a promise was made
  And a promise was kept
    You were finally safe now.

This was powerful. You really evoke raw emotion. Great job.

It was based on a true occurrence. Thanks again for the read and your comments. It means a lot to me. Have a wonderful evening.
