Strings

eckardcb

See the kite that hangs so low
Wavering, insecure
Worries tied around her neck
Her head just bobs, unsure

Sure, she wants to fly
But she doubts the wind
‘Cause every breath that rises
Must fall down again

Does it put her in control
To keep the string pulled tight?
Anchored down by fears
That distract her from the flight

What if branches grab her up
And form a tangled mess
Visible to passerby’s
Who constantly assess

Wind blows—up,
She’s up. What if she falls
Fast in love
With it all

The sky, the feeling of floating
On circuits, unseen,
Ceasing frantic reeling
Of her thoughts and strings

A part of her is flying now
A little girl raised up,
But there are strings attached
To who she has become

Cut the string and free the child?
But wait just a moment
She’s lifted high, almost proud
She feels seen and noticed

Who she was to who she is,
The string is what connects them,
In preparation for the flight,
Just surrender to the wind
