Insurmountable pain shakes
the poor girl to the core
she screams with all her might
she can't walk, she can't talk
"i don't believe you"
the doctor says
her body now no temple
her soul, violated
the teen cries day and night
she can't eat, she can't sleep
"i don't believe you"
the jury says
her brain tired and frazzled
overworked, not paid
the baby cries, gives her a fright
she has no break, she stays awake
"i don't believe you"
her husband says
on her deathbed, awaiting release
her children beside her
the truth comes out, they're not alright
her pain is high, her death is nigh
"why didn't you tell us in the first place"
they all say

- Comment from author about the poem: After reading an article about a woman diagnosed with bone-marrow cancer was constantly brushed off by the GP as simply having menopausal symptoms I decided to write this poem on a whim. I just wanted to express some struggles that women face, where we are constantly questioned, our truth isn't considered as meaningful as a man's truth. We are constantly forced to doubt ourselves and in doing so we fail to speak up for ourselves.
