Feelings

Irene Wells

How do I even begin to explain

The echo in my bones

That crescendos every day?

How do I describe

A feeling so raw, so piercing

Until you’ve felt it before?

A yearning so intense

That it shakes my veins

And the blood in them

Ripples with the rhythm

Of the thoughts in my head

Till they stop.

How do I put into words

Something that transcends language

Something that surpasses all attempts at expression?
Something that gnaws at me from morn till eve

A tiny voice in my head that never speaks

Till it screams.

Until it drowns my dreams

With spirals of fears

Daggers and knots buried deep.

How do I put into words

A feeling I don’t know how to feel?
