Oh Brother...

A.B. Jakobsen

May mother forgive your early parting

And in time, may brothers lay their anger to peace

Lest their pain once more relive

Stumbling in the horizon, carrying your valise

You never told me where you were going

But from what you told in the time of your life

It was no place for a boy like me to be

When you left you never even had a wife

You had already been, was that why you left?

But life is not just about what you keep

It’s just as much about what you mean!

And this be true wherever I weep

For these tears of mine are far from empty

As to my soul you are my host

No matter the size of this world and clime

It’s the smallest of the things I remember the most

The rarest sight, a smile and a wave

And with that you left us all alone

But your words are still of such delight

The seeds of wonder of which you’d sown

Please dear brother, never forget this evermore!

In the darkest of times in the cosmic dream

It be neither word, laugh or love of which I cherished

But simply that it was from you I deem…
