“The Poet and the Musician”

Nicole H.

Late-night performances,

I closed my eyes just for a second.

Piano playing as I write the lyrics,

You suddenly stop and grab my hand.

Smiling at those big brown eyes,

As you wear all black.

I can hear your deep voice,

It’s like a smile right back.

You’re a beacon of light from the crowd,

It’s the only one I see.

I sing my song out loud,

It’s like I’m not afraid of what we could be.

This is a love story,

Just worth waiting to unfold.

Will you sing to me?

As I write each word as we go.

I’ll be the lovely poet,

And you’ll be the musician.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem was written when I was having trouble falling asleep. It was 3 a.m., and I had to go to class in a couple of hours. There was one thing that I was excited to see: the boy I had a dream about. I knew I was not going to go to sleep if I didn't write my thoughts down. I sat at my desk and started writing. This poem is one of my favorite poems I've ever written. Of course, there are others I adore, but this one is definitely one of them!
