Headphones

Constant0123456789

            Take off your headphones,

Listen to life.

Get your head out of the clouds,

Don’t miss a thing.

            That’s what they say

The same everyday

            So I took them off

And gave it a chance.

            There were birds singing

Cut off by a horn

            The wind was blowing

Drowned out by cars

            The sun shone bright

Covered by exhaust

            The mountain was bare

The forest was gone

            A child was crying

A mother was screaming

            Sirens were wailing

A cart was creaking

My mind went to places I left behind

Places I’d promised I’d never again go

            Disappointment of family

Disparity of life

            Give me back my headphones

Don’t say another word

Exist in the world you made

And I’ll stay in my own.
