Things I Wish I’d Said

Cassie58

in the quiet hours of pre-dawn

in this sleepless drowsy state

i’m reflecting as I’m prone to

yet I know it’s far too late

to ponder on what’s been and gone

and wish I’d done it better

what wasn’t said with my own voice

i should have sent by letter

nothing can prepare us for

the finality of death

how important that these things are known

before our final breath

so today i wish to speak out loud

sincerely and it’s true

i always shone my torch for you

while standing in the queue

A story I know so well. What you didn't get to say though, they know it's in your heart. 😉

Such a lucky one to be in the beam of your torch. Very old-fashioned verse... in the best sense!

I guess we're both clearing the air today, saying what we've wanted to say for so long. Your poem speaks loud and clearly. It was a joy to read. - Phil A.

How I feel deep within. I never got to say goodbye and although I accept this, I can never know what it would have felt like if I did. This is stunning. 🤗

Thank you Teddy for your lovely review. I am sorry you never got the chance to say goodbye. Neither did I. This poem is my goodbye. Some things happen for a reason. I’m a firm believer in that. I feel so honoured you have added this poem to your favorites. Bless you.

Don't know how I missed this first time round, Cassie - but you are not short of tributes here, all of which are more than justified.
