Be the light in a world of darkness,

The bulb burns to light your way

            To see the world

To see the people

            The bulb burns bright.

Be the light in a world of shadow

The candle burns to keep night at bay

            To scare the shadows

To brighten your sleep

            The candle burns bright.

            Be the light,

Be the bulb,

            Be the candle

Be the light

            But…

            The bulb burns,

The bulb busts,

            The bulb is thrown away.

            The candle burns,

The candle melts,

            The flame is drowned.

            “Be the light,” they say,

The bulb dies out,

            “Be the light,” they say,

The candle’s flame is snuffed.

Be your own light.

Why should I die to let you see?

Why should I consume myself for you?
