O' Remembrance Day

Martin Ellgar

O’ Remembrance Day

O’ Remembrance Day, how I wonder what I have done.

I am gathered amongst others, around a memorial stone,

to remember why we are so few in number.

With head bowed in silence, rosemary in hand, I do recall.

O’ Remembrance Day, how I wonder what I have done.

I sacrificed my children, on my altar of self-love.

I proudly dressed them in uniform, ravaged by war,

I aborted them, discarded from the womb.

O’ Remembrance Day, how I wonder what I have done.

I do not hear their cries, I am far away.

All in heaven, hear their cries.

Tears rain on fields where they lay.

O’ Remembrance Day, how I wonder what I have done.

My children are gone before their time.

My place is poorer for their loss, their laughter, their love.

My fruit of blessing, no one will receive.

O’ Remembrance Day, how I wonder what I have done.

I march to the beat, trumpeted by the lord of the land.

I have forgotten the Sovereign Lord, his wisdom.

What did he say? Is it written down? Do you recall?

O’ Remembrance Day, how I wonder what I have done.

Who cares!? I laugh! I am free, I can do what I please,

I cruise, I tour the playgrounds, I indulge myself,

I wine and dine, the pleasure is all mine.

O’ Remembrance Day, how I wonder what I have done.

To us a child is born on Christmas Day.

Jesus is his name, to the altar he was sent.

Ravaged by our self-love, on the cross he died.

O’ Remembrance Day, how I wonder what I have done.

Jesus came, from the Father and all in his care,

to forgive all parents, of their unholy sacrifices.

Jesus came to show a better way, for us all.

O’ Remembrance Day, how I wonder what I have done,

Jesus came to live in our hearts, to banish the altar of self love,

to turn us around, to love one another, in each others care.

Jesus loves us, as do the children in heaven’s care.

O’ Remembrance Day, how I wonder what I have done.

With child in hand, walk with Jesus by his side,

for blessings will come through love divine.

My life is with you my child, from heaven you came.

O’ Remembrance Day, how I wonder what I’ve done.
