It’s Hard To Sleep

nephrite_jade

The human mind can be a scary thing,

But the most precious gift you’ll ever get.

It can envision nightmares that feel real,

And can wake you up drenched in sweat.

The condition I have is Sleep Paralysis,

My body will not move at all.

It’s scary and I start to panic,

My screams just bounce right off the wall.

I’m forced to lay still until I awake,

But suddenly there’s a manifestation,

Something that felt unholy and grim,

It definitely wasn’t God’s creation.

It moved slowly past my door frame,

Its limbs dragged loudly on the floor,

It made noises that would make you shudder,

Like the screechy sound of nails on a board.

Its rouged claws traced over my skin,

Digging deep as it scraped the surface,

My body twitched and I started to wince,

The slow burning pain made me nervous.

This isn’t real and it’s all in my mind,

And yet that’s not exactly the case.

My nose scrunched and my eyes formed tears,

It blew its foul breath into my face.

The stench made me want to gag,

Decaying teeth that reeked of rot.

Its saliva dripping onto my face,

The feel of it was piping hot.

My eyes burst open and I jump up frantic,

Everything’s not as it may seem,

The claw marks that embroider my skin,

Won’t you tell me that it’s just a dream?
