The Power of Play

Lisa Johnson

In the power of play, we find our release,
A joyous moment that brings us peace,
Through sports, we rise above our strife,
Creating a community that's full of life.
With every swing, kick, or throw,
We transcend the barriers that we know,
Race, religion, and background fade away,
As we come together to compete and play.
In the field, we don't see color or creed,
Just teammates striving together, indeed,
Bound by a common purpose and goal,
To uplift each other and reach our soul.
The power of play is a language we speak,
It breaks down walls and makes us unique,
In the heat of competition, we unite,
Building a community, shining so bright.
Through wins and losses, we learn to grow,
To respect each other, and let kindness show,
For in sports, we find a common ground,
Where our community's strength truly resounds.
So let us celebrate the power of play,
And acknowledge the role it has in our day,
Langston Hughes knew its value so true,
A force that brings communities anew.
