Oh mother, let me apologise.

David Wakeling

Even from the beginning I caused you pain,
Nine months of discomfort and a breech birth as well,
What did you see when you looked into my blue eyes?
The thief who stole your youth and the beggar
who was desperate for your love.

I could have been a better son.
I know I was needy and bothersome.
Perhaps I could have been quieter and helped around the house.

But I can’t understand why you jumped to your own death.
Falling to the cold sea and the rocks below.
I couldn’t stop crying when they carried your broken body to the shore.
You didn’t look restful.
Although I believe I saw angels calling your name.

I like to believe you are happy now among the clouds.

Let the tigers of fear be silenced.
And may you find the peace in passing,
that you were denied in life by a son that did not understand.

Tragic. A mother’s love is eternal and unconditional. This is a heartfelt and touching poem. I am sorry this happened to you.
