Shrapnel

qheidi

She wanted desperately to remove the shrapnel from her wounds,
But the wounds were too deep
And couldn't be seen.
She sought to use the strength of the metal from the shrapnel to reinforce the protective walls,
But she couldn't reach deep enough to remove the shards.
Instead, with each new day,
There was a new landmine on which she stepped,
And more fragments became lodged in the invisible wounds that couldn't be seen.
For to the naked eye they didn't exist.
The bleeding was only within.
