Rotten Fruit

A.D. Small

Rotten Fruit

Prompt: Dear God, She's Not Ready To Go!

The taste of bitterness fills my soul

As I stand by this apple tree

If breaking me was your goal

Well then, you definitely made me see

I stare at the gnarled limbs

Lost deep in thought

The world slowly dims

The ground begins to rot

You definitely carved your mark

Upon this rough wood

Igniting a deep spark

As best as you could

I fall to my knees

On this soft murky ground

Deep amongst the trees

My soul, lays tortured and bound

I look up at the withered fruit

As they witness my agony

Like an old twisted root

That's festering inside me

I scream out to the soul-less sky

Because the pain is buried deep

I beg to God as I cry

Please don't put her to sleep
