How Many More Must Die?

Accidental Poet

A Super Bowl celebration parade

In an elated Kansas City

No one saw it coming

Everyone ecstatic from football victory

Suddenly shots rang out

Sending screaming people scrambling

Confusion infecting hundreds

The celebration ending

Life threatening shots

From a shooters gun

So brave to pull the trigger

Then the coward turns to run

How many must die?

Because of gun laws that don’t work

A holiday of Valentine’s Day

A love for guns by jerks

There was a time

When guns were needed

But that was a long time ago

Now a crazed world, the guns have seeded

How many more deaths?

How many more graves?

How many more excuses?

Why is gun killing culture praised?

To take a life

A challenge to some

Pull the trigger

Where the bullet comes from

Care not

Of the life you kill

It’s more about satisfaction

You crave the thrill

The judicial system

Is geared in your favor

You’ll spend not a day in jail

But in psych ward you’ll savor

 What is so hard

About gun control?

When another life is gone

Another beautiful soul

Such true words AP, in the UK it is illegal to own guns without a licence but we still have shootings but not as many as in the US where guns a allowed to be owned.

Well, we do have gun laws here in the US, but each state can make its own laws as voted by its voters. Most sates like Massachusetts where I am requires a gun permit and background check to buy a gun. Some other states, the voters passed a law that you don't have to have a permit. President Biden is supposedly trying to pass a law that all states be the same and tighten up the laws. But obviously will be met with a lot of resistance. The right to bare arms to protect yourself, family and property is hundreds of years old and there are people who refuse to give that up. Even though people are dying innocently. Personally, I wish there were no guns at all in the world. The world would be a safer and happier place to live. I know I could catch some complaints on that from some, but all I keep seeing is people dying, and some of them children in schools.

Thank you for your reply AP, I now understand a bit more about the gun laws in the US.
I too wish there were no guns or weapons of any type in the world..

I cannot believe that the world has become so out of control, I don't want to pretend I know much of America, I've only ever been on holiday. But maybe someone should find the courage to make it harder for anyone to buy a gun, votes or no votes. it seems a bit like the wild west to me, and anyone can buy candy and anyone can buy a gun. There is a lot of mental health problems in the world and I don't see what can make it better. I also have seen interviews where people have used their gun to protect themselves from others who use their guns for fun without consequences. A vicious circle. 🌹

Teddy, so I don't have to type it all again, please read my response to Andy above. But yes Teddy, I agree. I just don't understand how 1. People can pull the trigger knowing they will hurt or kill another life. 2. That there are people that will ignore the fact that people are dying, innocent people, children in schools, DYING! How can you explain to their families of what's happened? That its been happening for many years. Thanks Teddy.

I told ya we can't trust anyone with such a dodgy barnet (hairstyle) as Trump!

          • Accidental Poet

We should use Trump as a toilet brush. 😉

Why dirty up a real brush? 😁

Completely agree with your sentiments, AP. Wise words. Very well written.

Thanks Tom. Every time I hear of a mass shooting somewhere, all I can do is shake my head and say this is not why we are here.

Seems size isn't everything.... one of the two biggest countries in the world can't get its own house in order, but sets itself up to be a moral arbiter of world affairs. Ironical doesn't begin to describe it...
Plenty of good people in the United States, and from your piece and comments i know you are one of them. But how does it feel to live in a land where the majority are fuck wits?

I'm proud to be American Dave, but America is not the America it used to be or that I personally admire. Thanks for the read and comment/compliment of me.

Ditto Australia in most respects other than the gun issue, which of course has much to do with history....Take care, AP

PS: I'm not proud to be anything - I had no choice in it at all.

Thanks N, I don't believe we done too well with our evolution. At least not in certain areas like world violence and peace commitment. Too many egotistical power hungry maniacs who want nothing but to rule the whole world. Its as if Hitler was still here. Sorry if I'm sounding off on this, it just really sets me off. Try to have a nice day N.
