Grabbing, reaching, touching

Finnian Bond

'But you're always so happy'
  they say,
confused eyes dancing over my frame
  hands grabbing, reaching, touching.
wishing to be of some use
'I'm fine.' I say, forcing that smile, willing my eyes to turn all bright.
Hoping, wishing, that they will see that and stop
   grabbing, reaching, touching.
Yells, SCREAMS echo through the house.
WHY CANT YOU DO ANYTHING RIGHT
  YOU'RE NOT GOOD ENOUGH
they echo through my mind and ring true, true, true, every time I hear them.
  so true
  i hear them
  e v e r y w h e r e.
  then she cries
  and asks for a hug
  grabbing and reaching and touching.
