My Unknown Purpose

Cloie

What was I made for? What is my goal?
A star kid adrift, in the cosmos, a soul.
Why do I falter, lose sight of my aim?
Will I ever grasp my purpose, or is it all just a game?

Was I crafted to shine, to dazzle and gleam?
Or am I destined to wander, lost in a dream?
Why do I feel like I'm drifting alone?
Will I ever find a place to call my own?

What path should I tread, which road should I take?
Am I meant for greatness, or merely a mistake?
Why do I question, why do I doubt?
Will I ever find the answers, figure it all out?

What was I made for? What is my goal?
From a star kid to a lost soul, I'm starting to roll.

  • Comment from author about the poem: As someone who's been told I have potential or talent, I sometimes wonder if I'm living up to those expectations or if I'm just drifting aimlessly. The poem raises important questions about identity and direction, which are things I struggle with a lot. It's like I know I'm supposed to be doing something meaningful, but I'm not sure what that is or how to get there. Sometimes I feel like I'm just going through the motions, hoping to stumble upon my true calling. I don't know if you've ever felt this way, but I thought I'd share it with you in case you have. Maybe we can both find some comfort in knowing that we're not alone in our search for purpose.

You appear to have already found your purpose
Self inventory at your age is very telling
I doubt you will go far wrong
Perhaps for now you can forget about the destination and enjoy the journey

Reminds me of a certain Billie Eilish song. I like the way the words seem to just fall into place at certain points. "A star kid adrift, in the cosmos, a soul." Stellar line.

Well Cloie, you've just penned a poem of mine and I'm certain many other lives. I grew up as you, not knowing what it was I wanted to do in life. All I did know was I wanted to work, but nothing really jumped out at me when I was younger. I think It had a lot to do with me never really knowing that I could do whatever I wanted to do. First of all, you're here on MPS doing a wonderful job of writing poetry. That, is one calling in your life that you have recognized and are a poet! As far as anything else you may want to do, think about the many different occupation that you see people doing all around you. If any of those appeal to you and you can see yourself doing it, then look into it further. While in my mid-forties I realized that I like big trucks and that I'd like to drive them. I'm retired now at 67, but I wish I'd realized my dream sooner than I did. Good luck to you Cloie, I know you get it figured out soon. Believe in yourself! 😉👍
