Just A Joke

weltschmerz

Soul sisters, my sweethearts

The women I love, works

Of art

Their fairy eyes inspire my rhymes

And kindness and heartmend and laughs

In their wiseness beauty reinvents herself newly

And fears are mere phantoms, I'll face all my demons

When I look at them

But when we're alone

Their voice takes on a tone

It chills me to the bone

Tales of horror they tell

You know I'd rage a hundred fires

Stand guard on top of the stairs

Up to the rooms of little girls

Knife tucked underneath my tongue

I'd exhume every man

Who went with secrets to the grave

And never paid for a day

For the destruction in his wake

Leave vicious vipers under covers

Of rotten men who went without a

Punishment or consequence

For what they did to them

'Cause what do you say to the girl

Who's had to endure the pain

Seven lifetimes should not contain?

What do you say to the crying recounts of rape

And bone shattering shouts for help?

What do you say, feeling small,

In a world that does cursed harm

To a child of only three

With blades of rocks and deeds

Of oppression that runs deeper

Than the trenches in the sea?

How do I save a mother that bleeds internally

Split to be in five places at once

Burnt out and yet never good enough

Carries everyone's pain and worries

But who carries hers?

And after the news bury me alive

All they tell me is the same old advice

Don't be dramatic, there's good guys too

Despair and anger will kill you one day

It's not their fault, men were cut out this way

And most accusations aren't even true

Then if you dare speak a warning

A polite plea for decency

Shaking heads will call you boring

"It's just a joke"

Is what they'll say
