The Rain Drop

Chuck Scudder

It fell with very little fanfare

Innocuous, and so very small

A mere spec that was barely wet

that first drop of rain to fall

It was conceived in a mother cloud

and birthed on a thirsty earth

It was the first of millions more

that will nourish the rivers and creeks

and soak the ground with needed relief

For scores of us real joy will come

when we feel that tiny rain drop

that landed softly on our tongue
