Journals sit on the top shelf
as both a threat
and the possibility
of the existence of
my literary potential.

- Comment from author about the poem: How often as writers do we collect pretty journals? Probably a lot. And then we never write in them out of fear that what we write isn't good enough or worthy enough to fill its pages. So our journals sit on our shelves, empty. They sit on our shelves as both a reminder and in a way a mockery of the endless possibilities that could be written down.
