Twilight's Veil

Royce Earnest Rasmussen

In twilight's veil, as dusk unfurls,
Fireflies dance, their light aglow,
Captured in jars, our childhood swirls,
In twilight's veil, as dusk unfurls.

In whispers of night, our hearts whirl,
Each flicker a memory, a tableau,
In twilight's veil, as dusk unfurls,
Fireflies dance, their light aglow.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Twilight's Veil is a triolet-style poem. A triolet is a shorter form of poetry with a specific rhyme scheme and repetition of certain lines. In a triolet, the first line is repeated as the fourth and seventh lines, and the second line is repeated as the eighth line. With this poem, I tried to evoke a sense of nostalgia and longing, using the imagery of fireflies in the twilight to symbolize memories of childhood. The fireflies represent fleeting moments of innocence and wonder, captured briefly like fireflies in jars.
