Tune: St Magnus

('The head that once was crowned with thorns')

Matthew 17 v.1-5

********

Jesus transfigured on the mount

He of life is the fount

His face did shine as the sun bright

His raiment white as light

Behold, Elijah, Moses, they

Appeared with Him that day

Spoke of His death for people all

Who hear salvation's call

Peter did there desire to stay

On the mount-top alway

But was not to forever be

They returned to valley

Yet while on mount a voice they heard

It was to them God's word

Said, This is my beloved Son

He still my will has done

In Him I am well please, Him hear

And stay to Him close, near

He was strengthened for suffering

That future days would bring

Grant us, Lord, in prosperity

And too adversity

To be balance, to be prepared

Follow you unimpaired
