lance brown

hers

bells ringing on the dawn of a sunday morning;

the grating of nutmeg into batter and the sprinkle of cinnamon.

you are the sunlight that slips through my blinds,

and the sweet flavor of brown sugar.

hopeful yawns and relieved sighs,

the motherly smell of blooming lilies,

you are the rainwater that encourages them to grow strong,

and the fresh scent of the earth awakened.

the sanguine taste of ice water on my tongue,

the gentle hum of a running air conditioner,

and the quiet and fluffy embrace of a knitted blanket;

you are the chill that runs throughout my body,

that settles deep within my bones, making me laugh.

with every little thing i do and every place i go,

i see you, my dear, and only you,

and i will forever carry you in my spirit

whenever we are apart.
