Today I ate a plum

David Wakeling

Today I ate a plum, a Satsuma plum.
It tasted like God had allowed one of his
angels to kiss me on the lips.
The skin was cool and a deep red colour,
The colour of blood.
The flesh was sweet, thick  and moist.
The thought occurred to me that it was
giving me life and I was filled with and
overwhelming sense of gratitude.
I planted the seed in the garden hoping one
day someone else, in the future would enjoy the
taste of the plum.
Today I tasted a plum from God.

Nice poem! Is the plum literal or symbolic?

    • David Wakeling

That is a good question. For me it is a symbol of the wonderful gift of Life. But for others it might be just a plum.
