The Arid Land

The Arid Land

Willows gasp for life—

Roots thrash in the empty air.

Above, buzzards arc in sky's uncaring glare.

Endless craving of sands—

Barren, they'll never know the kiss of water’s sweep,

Nor the caress of life that crawls or leaps.

Yet still, under the unyielding azure span,

Defiant against its own desolation,

We find a fierce beauty to love

In this land, bathed in relentless sun.
