If we ever meet again

George Mutavayi

If we ever crossed paths again,

At a crossroad or a nameless street,

At a supermarket or under the same bedsheets,

In the dark or a senseless dream,

Would you recognize me?

For I know I would-

Tied up and drowning,

Blinded and burning,

Just your eyes,

Your touch or your breath,

I’d know that it's you,

Decaying or in ashes,

In silence or pain,

And I'd be home again.
