A Gift for a Queen

Hugh

The unwanted procession of piety
Beleif for the non believers
Here they come
All thats missing are the candles and robes
Before they press on your doorbell

They bask in your radiance
And gossiping, dress you in purple
Fit for a queen
Before sidelong glances and nudges
And ask if you are well

All before the entrance of the jester and the fool
Who avoid one another with secret glances
But we all know the secret
They join those gathering round
For someone has a tale to tell

In the comfort of deniable plausibility
The fool crosses the floor with kisses
How happy you are
As the jester looks down at his feet
To be off this carousel

The pious audience looks on
Hands to faces and smiles of hunger
This mock horror
But the rapt attention to the players
Unwilling to break the spell

But the world has moved on
The pious lose interest as ever
Your world has moved on
Your interests have changes
Different candles and a different bell
