I hope it is sunny when I die.
I’ve seen enough of the rain,
I’ve seen enough dreary days,
I’ve seen enough clouds in the sky.
I hope the sun blazes when I die.
the concrete sidewalks hot to touch,
the cooler ice threatening to melt,
the shady corner the only salvation.
I hope to be alone when I die.
My mother at the mall,
My siblings at the beach,
My father at the lake.
I hope it is sunny when I die.
Just like today.

- Comment from author about the poem: It’s been awhile. Lately, I’ve been back to thinking about death, and how I will die. I’ve always wanted to go out on my own terms, but life is unpredictable and fickle. I can’t control anything that happens anymore, not even what I do to myself. So if there is a God out there, I just have on request: I want to die on the most beautiful day I can. Sincerely, Nobody special
