Summer Simplicity

Greg M Cole

Catchin’ fireflies with tails burning bright;

Little voices that echo in the night;

Giggles and screams, rolling in the grass;

Sweet innocence created to last.

Hide ‘n seek – “Ollie, oxen in free!”

Freeze tag – “You’ll never catch me!”

Ridin’ your bike, wind in your hair;

Not worrying about what clothes you wear.

Smiles and laughter, a bright summer face;

Childish wisdom with childish grace,

“Are we there yet?” – showing a toothless grin,

As snow cone juice runs down your chin.

Remember when that was you and me?

Enjoying each day, running wild and free;

But along the way we forgot how;

“Without a care” is just a memory now.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is a poem that I wrote many years ago. Those who are younger may not be able to relate, but we \\\"old timers\\\" can remember when life was much simpler.
