Hugh

Running lights
Glowing red and green
Reflect upon the water
Charts
Scattered across the floor
Reminders
Of past journeys

Too long
In this storm chased sea
Catching tides
And stars
The compass spins and turns
Lost
Adrift in the silence

Distant shores
Pass like clouds
A torn sail
Flapping uselessly in the breeze
Partly dragging in the water
Ropes
Trail out like streamers

Clear dark night
Running lights
Of other boats
Shine
Navigating the sea
As the tides
Pull us out of reach
