if you really cared
you'd care about me
if you really wanted to reconcile
you'd face your sick actions
but you don't care about me
you're using my dad as an excuse
for not coming earlier
asking my mom for pity
and she gives it
she's an escape route for you
a way to not face legal consequences
a way to keep me silenced
real family would have tried to make things better
don't spin it on me
after all I'm the victim.

- Comment from author about the poem: like fake friends, but for family. if anyone else but my family had assaulted me, we wouldn't be having this conversation. it would be immediate legal action. because it's family, now all of a sudden I'm supposed to have a different reaction, though the crime was the same.
