The Fall of the House

Hugh

The tang of sea salt in the air
Even from here the sound of the waves
She turns to me
Waving a dismissive hand
For silence and solitide
And, without foresight
Turns and leaves

Downstairs, I sit on the arm of the sofa
Staring through the windows
Wondering how I fell in this house
Too clever for my own good
Too silent within my own head
All the words drowned out
By the roar of the sea

Still the house falls
Sliding into the sea
As behind me I hear her close the front door
Making the windows rattle
The sea laps at my feet
Rising higher and higher
The water swallowing the land

Quite a fall. Descriptive with some magnetic imagery. The tang of sea salt in the air is unmistakeable. I enjoyed my visit Hugh.
