The War Going on Outside

Mason Vollman

There's a war going on,

outside your room.

nobody enters,

you see your doom.

the pain in your chest,

continues to gloom.

your lost in the dark,

the pain starts to nest.

theres only one way in,

the center of your heart,

you reach for the handle,

but then your lost in the dark.

you can't see forward,

you can only see behind.

your stuck in your tracks,

you can only rewind.

now your back where you started,

your hopes just a gleam.

you see just a glare,

the tears on the floor.

but all you can do is sit back and dream.

that maybe one day,

there will be an opportunity to leave.

hoping that day will be before insanity.

im all out of tears,

all I see is vanity.

whenever I try,

it just repeats the loupe.

maybe there lies,

i can't even see.

or

maybe my mind is playing tricks on me.

i don't know where I am?

or what it is I've done.

is there another option?

other than the gun?

im drowning in water,

im sinking in sand.

does this happen to everyone?

or am I a lucky one.

i wish I weren't stuck,

so I could run till I'm done.

but who would I be?

if I walked through that door.

because outside that door,

theres a war going on.
