...Has to stop

Alan R

Walking down the stairs

Tried to help out someone who

Ignored me for a year

                                               Regulate your kindness!

Coming back from lunch

Accidentally cared for someone who

Screamed at me in public

                                   That is too much empathy!

Lowered my values

To understand the mind of someone who

Turned out to be a narcissist

                                  That's your trauma pattern!

Voiced out my needs

Just to get pushed over by the people who

I thought were my friends

You see it made you stronger!

Kept giving love

And all I got was envy from the people who

Make me hide my happiness

                           You need to stop overthinking!

Who has to stop?

I regulate my goodness for the people who

Perhaps don't deserve another chance

                            You read too much philosophy!

  • Comment from author about the poem: What has to stop really is being in denial about how we truly feel, forcing ourselves to feed on the "shoulds".

Beware of narcissists, I would say and give of yourself to those who deserve your kindness. Most people are decent. Then there are the others. A great read Alan. Happy Tuesday.
