First Day Back Syndrome

Tom C Dylan

After a week in the Spanish sunshine

the Monday morning alarm

kicks my door down

like armed police

with a warrant for my arrest.

I throw my arms in the air

insisting I'll come quietly.

And it's back to work,

like an escaped prisoner

being dragged back to his cell,

I'm back in the confines of the office,

my orange jump-suit

a shirt and tie.

By ten o'clock I'm on my

third cup of tea,

Spain and the week before

seems like

a million miles away

and a decade ago.

Thanks, Neville. Yep, yesterday was so grim. I tried to capture it in a poem. Cheers, Tom.

This sounds like 'gotta go to work to eat, but is there not more to life than this?'
Existential questions, Tom; I anticipate you providing the answer................πŸ™‚

Ah yes, the answer to the question of life, the universe and everything, is 42! πŸ™‚

Oh so well said, Sire. It would tickle the cockles of Douglas Adams' ghostly heart.....

First day back. Painful isn’t it? Back to the grind stone. Start planning the next holiday:) I remember this feeling so well. Pleased to say, I no longer have that problem. I enjoyed my visit to your page Tom. Happy Tuesday.

Yes, Cassie. I was back after a week away yesterday and tried to get it down in a poem. Thanks for your comments as always. And yeah, I've made it through the first couple of days back so I'm good. πŸ™‚ Happy Tuesday, too. Take care, Tom.

Will '42' help you through this?! lol. Dunno quite how.
Yes, it can be a dreaded moment - the Monday morning, holiday gone, back to grind-stone.
Well, go back to work Tuesday then! Doh! I'm no help. lol.
I've started my retirement - ooh! But different things to tend to now.

Haha, yes that's exactly it. It isn't long before it feels like you've never been away. πŸ™‚ Cheers, Tom.

Although retired now, I remember coming back from vacation while working and thinking, well another year until I can do this again. But all in all, I did enjoy working, just not as much as vacation. 😁 Great write Tom. πŸ‘
