Petering out as I always do

As I climb a thousand steps

A thousand steps, a thousand steps

Steps that have no debt

Onwards, forwards, upwards

Through the mysteries yet untold

Comforted by my thoughts

As memories yearn so bold

Barriers beneath my feet

Break and scatter woes

Tis the sound to which I climb

Like a drum beat on my soles

Don't look down

Don't look back

Don't look side to side

Never doubt myself, I tell myself

For to live is not to hide

The precipice is reachable

When I open up my mind

With candor, care, and compassion

There's a love that's not so blind

To release the shackles that thwart my steps

A thousand steps that have no debt

Gives credence to a man alone

For above it all there is happiness

In a love that I call home
