In your honor

Nicole Pritchard

With each yellow ribbon

Blowing in the wind

Is a reminder of all

We have lost

All those brave men and women

Who fought to keep us safe

Each yellow ribbon

Reminds of what

You all have done

For each one of us

You never knew any of us

Yet we are so proud of you

That is why we wave

The yellow ribbons

In your honor

To show you how proud

We are of all of you brave people

That is why we wave

The yellow ribbons

In your honor

To show you how

Proud we are of you

For everything that you have done

To make sure this place is free

And a safe place to live

We thank you

You are in each of our hearts everyday

That is why we wave

The yellow ribbons

We miss all that is lost

Who fought so long and hard

Thank you

For making me feel safe and free

  • Comment from author about the poem: I wrote this poem while I was traveling. I saw many cemeteries that had yellow ribbons blowing in them. Being naive I thought it was only in movies seeing yellow ribbons and what they symbolize. After I saw them first hand really has changed how I think about them now.

I thought they tied them round the old oak tree, it seems times have changed.
