Decided to stop at the mall today
Just to remember
All that had been
To remember the time I purchased mice
At the pet store
For the snakes
To remember the teen angst
The many frustrations
Of early life
To remember the gathering place
For the cool people
& uncool me
To remember the wonders
Of the shop windows
Of things others had
To remember the bookstore
Of worlds that never were
Where I'd always been
Now just an old man at the mall
Walking corridors with echoes
Full of youth, yet hollow
Now a fantasy world from the bookstore
To then walk out the door
Leave behind the yore
