Bound by Memory

Serene

The day I saw you once again,

Was the day that brought life back within.

People say, "You took my breath away,"

But you gave it back to me that day.

You left saying you’d come back soon,

But our destiny sang a different tune.

When I knew that you were gone,

I chased life's path to where you were drawn.

I chased life so fast that I reached my death,

Hoping there to find you at my last breath.

The moment I saw you again, time did blend,

Our past and future both did mend.

I felt in your eyes, you knew it was me,

But was it too late for our destiny?

We’re married now to other's hearts,

Why weren’t we meant to play our parts?

If not in this life, I’d die once more,

To find you again on a distant shore.

I'll fight destiny and rewrite a new story,

In a world where our eternal love finds its glory.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This is first time I came up with a conceptual story inspired by an idea suggest by my Friend Idea Description: A love story where circumstances separate them, but they still have feelings for each other. They meet again unexpectedly on the road, but cannot be together. The story I came up with: They were a couple in a past life, but sadly, the girl died in an accident. Overwhelmed by grief, the guy decided to end his own life, hoping to be with her in death if not in life. They were born again, and when they saw each other unexpectedly on the road, memories from their past life flashed back. However, they were already married to other people in this new life, so they couldn't be together, even though they still loved each other deeply.
