When I was young, the sun shone, all was well
I heard the birds in the trees
And hid from the rain when it fell
Then I got older, the light dimmed, the shadows got longer
The sun left my face
And I was left behind to wonder
As I watched the night deepened, sky black, there was no longer any sound
I was stood alone in the rain
And screamed when I realized I’d been found
A sickle rose above me, a bad omen, stark white
It’s clear I was doomed from the start
Once I’d lost the sun, I would never again find the light
Thus in the darkness I wander, no direction, all alone
Losing hope for the future
And mourning the sun-filled life that will never be my own
