Comforting souls
whilst ripping hearts
the brass band leads them
down the street
-
Blood and tears water
the roadside grass
that evermore attests;
He was here
Tau e tshehla
Motaung wa Ramokgele

- Comment from author about the poem: The date was 15 June 2024. I attended a funeral of a man I never knew, but wished I had. He was described genuinely as a dapper man, well read, and principled. A humble man of few words, they said. His grandchildren wept as they described what he was in word, and deed. He left, but his essence stayed with me, as with them. Just another leaf, from my observation pages. Tau e tshehla means "the grey lion". Motaung wa Ramokgele was his clan name.
