The chains of fear

Charlotte3

My mind loud with thoughts, wrapped up in fear,

The cave closes in and the light disappears.

I feel his worry, his panic, his unease and his pain,

The shared fear of losing the battles that we both face.

His battle is against good and to conspire evil,

My battle is against the emotions he is making me feel.

What are you doing here child? I hear a voice say,

Step out in faith and come from that dark place.

But my faith is few for why did you allow this to happen?

My Child, the voice says, evil things are not my passion.

The attacks are from him who preys on emotion and waits,

So that you spiral in despair and distress that dictates.

A wind tore the mountains but the Lord was not in the blow,

An earthquake shook the earth but God was not down below,

A fire scorched and burned but God was not in the flames,

But a gentle whisper broke the destruction and from it God’s voice came.

It asks me once again, My Child, why are you here?

I step out of my dark cave of comfort and into the clear.

The weight of worry ceases and his grasp on me loosens.

My God calls me by name and I no longer stand for his persecutions.

My God gives me a still mind and eases the storm with His peace,

As the enemy sulks back in that cave because he has lost me,

No longer afraid, I am free.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Based on 1 Kings 19. Know evil things are from the enemy to use your emotions in a way that hurts you. God provides peace to make it through these trials so you know whatever happens it will be okay, and the chains of fear can be broken.
