Good Night, Baby

Thomas W Case

As the day
closes, and the
night slides in.
The big fish hunt
in shallow water.

The old dog
leaves home to
die alone.
Orphans cry for
love
and the arrogant
choke on
rotten meat.

The libraries
become hostels
and owls
break the backs
of tom-cats on
the prowl.
The booze is gone
and the cigarettes too.

And somewhere
in this silly
world, a father kisses
his daughter good night.

a silly world it is sometimes.

but and ending that suggests all is not yet lost.

      good one Thomas.

Dark and powerful words that carry an ominous tone. Unsure if it is a warning or statement of what is. It gives shivers.

Dear Thomas as exquisite as ever, my favourite stanza is the second your imagery throughout is just beautiful. Last lines ah, seems such a simple task complete, with a kiss from a dad, as we all know it isn't for all. Wow your compassion is blinding in this. 🌹

I could say love covers a multitude of sins, but I sense it's deeper than that.

Love this, Thomas. The tone reminds me a bit of Kerouac reading the last lines of On The Road. Really enjoyed, mate.
