Here I Love

Jou Wilder

Here I love—

only little things keep us apart:

the flesh separating our bones

from collision, a dream,

the length of the room,

and sometimes time zones, though still little.

Even so,

I love you here in the distance.

Here I love—

I want you near and nearer,

inching into the centimeters

that separate us,

until our blood mingles

and we live and breathe as one,

like lenticels in trunks;

until our hearts' reaction is chained,

bringing us together in both directions,

like churning waters gushing in uproar.

Here I love; wide and near—

Beyond the the things that keep us apart

  • Comment from author about the poem: I wish I could always have you near, love you more deeply, and perhaps we could live as a single entity. The kind of love that transcends distance and barriers is what I long for.
