Birth Blessings

Tune: Hyfrydol

('Alleluia, sing to Jesus')

Psalm 139 v.13-18

********

O Lord, you have my reins* possessed (*conscience)

My inward parts, so I blessed

You covered me in mother's womb

You lived, died, rose from the tomb

Each son, daughter born may now be

A child of salvation, see

I will praise you, for I am made

Fearfully, wonderful, staid

Marvellous are your works, my soul

Knows full well, entire and whole

My substance was not hid from you

My frame, bones, you know all too

When you did make me in secret

Each creation, no regret

Curiously, skilfully you wrought

Then to new life you me brought

You did see me when imperfect

My members you did inspect

E'en when unformed, they were written

In your book, till time comes when

I would be made by your working

You continued, Lord and King

Fashioned me as it did please you

Then on earth a life born new

How precious your thoughts to me be

O God! Them I not all see

How great be their sum! I cannot

Count their total, vast their lot

If I try, they be more than sand

Grains scattered over the land

Waking, sleeping, I still with you

You with me eternal, true

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 8.7.8.7. 8.7.8.7. Written near my birthday - a couple of years ago, or maybe about 5 million years ago, as Goldfinch and I are very old, so we say! lol. Meanwhile - A comedy film says 'I know when I was born'. The reply was 'It's bad enough that it even happened!' (cos I began to sing).

Your Birth Blessings took me back to school. Alleluia, sing to Jesus, that tune, a favourite assembly hymn. Happy Tuesday Orchi.

Thanks Cassie. You Welsh, with that tune?! I'm not.
